Wise Words

I'm ALWAYS seeing pins on Pinterest with motivational or inspirational quotes.  I tend to glance over them and then move on to the next pin about cats or food or sparkly things because it takes a pretty good quote to catch my eye but I also have a few quotes that mean a lot to me so don't need to get cluttered up in the sayings and exerpts deparment.

So I thought I'd share my favourites with you - no fancy font or presentation, just the words in situ on my fridge, wall, etc…

"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?" - Satchel Paige

This magnet has been on my fridge for years (ahem, holding up a flea treatment reminder for the kitties…) and I'll admit it, until I started writing this post I had no idea who Satchel Paige was but after a little research I was interested to see that he was a baseball player who at one point played for the Cleveland Indians - I used to live there!

This quote is one of the three that are on my fridge that I see every day.  This one reminds me that mentally, age is only an age.  Yes, you get older, you get grey hairs, you have to start looking after your cholesterol and other "grown up" things but mentally, how old do you feel?  If you didn't keep track of your birthdays, what's stopping you from feeling 10, 20 years younger?!

"Be the change you wish to see in the world" - Gandhi

Mr Jones introduced me to these words. I think it's the kind of quote that can be interpreted in any number of ways depending on how you read it… If you want to make a difference with something, it starts with you.  Lead by example.  Everything you do will make an impact on someone or something else.

After researching a little online and with all of the slightly different variations, I found it hard to find the origin of the quote - if you know, let me know!

"To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world" - unknown

So this says that it's a quote by "unknown" but there seems to be a whole bucketful of people who are credited with this quote.  Whoever said it, it's one of my favourites.

We live in a world with more than 7.2 BILLION people. When you think that you are one person in all of that it's pretty overwhelming.   What's even more overwhelming is that with all these humans on Earth, you are one of them and you *hopefully* have found that one who thinks that spending time with you is better than spending time with any of those other people.  I've been with Mr Jones for over 7 years now so sorry 7.2 billion people, I have found the person who is the world to me.

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I liked this quote so much that I actually framed it.  It was pretty simply to do - I had the card with the quote and I had some red card for a background and then popped it in a frame.

My card credits the quote to Ralph Waldo Emerson however there seem to be a number of people who may have also said some variation of these words.  Whoever said it, it reminds me to not focus on the past or future but to keep an eye on myself and what I am capable of.

  1. I love this, I pin quotes all the time and often think about putting some up in the house. Having suffered depression in the past I find positivity really helps me on bad days, reminds me to pull myself together. My pinterest link is diaryofuem. I'll see if I can follow you :-)
