Afternoon Tea - Butler's,The Chesterfield Mayfair

Afternoon tea at Butlers, The Chesterfield Mayfair

So your mum's 50th birthday is a pretty special thing to celebrate.  I was lucky enough to spend it with not only my mum but my sister too.  Rather than just buy her a present that would sit on a shelf or in a drawer, I decided that an "experience" would be an excellent present and after pondering makeovers, photo shoots, pampering sessions and other such things, I though that an proper afternoon tea would be perfect!

Lounging in Green Park and totally unaware of the tea to come...

How hard is it to find a good place for afternoon tea?  Very.  Only because there are so many places that offer it!  After much consideration, I chose Butler's because I loved how it looked like a garden room in the pictures.  Tucked away in a quite street in Mayfair we were greeted with smiles from the doorman and guided to the beautiful room for our tea.

We were give a menu with the different types of afternoon tea we could choose from which was mostly an extensive list of the teas available.  My mum took the safe option with the Assam, my sister had multiple lattes and I tried Lapsang Souchong for the first time.  This was quite possibly the best drink option I have ever made - I was in love as soon as I got wafts of the smoky tea while it was brewing in my teapot!

Then the food arrived!  The 3 layered stand offered sweets, savouries and the all important scones!  The choice of sandwiches covered all tastes...egg mayonnaise, salmon, roast chicken...

...But the middle tier was the best - sweets including one of the best things I have ever tasted (strawberry tart)...

…And the top tier was for scones (plain and fruity) with clotted cream and jam...

I really can't say how much I loved the pastries - the fruitcake was moist, the caramel cheesecake was soft and sweet, the strawberry tart had the most delicious pastry, the best custard and super ripe strawberries.  I'm craving it on a daily basis at the moment!

The staff were more than happy to bring extra servings of the things we wanted to have more of (strawberrry tarts!) and were always on hand to top up tea.

I am so glad that I chose Butler's over other places that serve afternoon tea because not only was the food excellent but we were made to feel extremely welcome and everyone made a special effort to celebrate my mum's birthday...

A cupcake was brought out with a candle and "happy birthday" piped onto the plate and everyone sung to my mum.  See how happy this made her?!

A very rare picture of me hiding behind a tea cup!

I just want to say a very big thank you to Bogden (sorry for the bad spelling!) and everyone else who made my mum's 50th birthday even more special!
