Just Eat App & Fresh Fare

Mr Jones was out with work buddies, I'd been working from home due to the head office move at work so though I'd take the opportunuty to *research* some more of my local food places and apps..

I though I'd give the Just Eat app a go because although they offer similar options to the Hungry House app I tried a while ago, the whole format was different in places.

Enter your post code to see who can deliver to you…

There's a nifty filter that lets you sort by cuisine so if you are craving Chinese like I was it's easy to find what you want.

If you're not sure where to order from, there's a handy feature that shows reviews from previous customers (some quite brutal like Geraldine below!)…

Once you've picked your restaurant you can browse the menu by course - this is a feature that I felt was missing from the Hungry House app that I really like with Just Eat.

What I really liked about the Just Eat app is that there's a section before checkout to enter any comments.  My usual comment is "on the tofu main course hold the onion but add extra garlic".  It's a really good addition to the app that others might not have, especially if you have specific dietary requirements.

Once you've picked what you want to eat go to the "checkout".

There are options for payment - I used my debit card but you can also pay by cash on delivery - and then you can keep track of how your order is getting on.

There is an option for the app to alert notifications if you want a running commentary on where your food is.  I signed up for this but only got notifications when my order was received and delivered.  I also liked that while I was browsing different restaurants and adding things left, right and centre to my "basket", the app kept the details of all of the things I added for each place so when it came down to actualy ordering I could easily compare the cost from each takeaway.

So the food…sooooooo many places to order from but I went with Fresh Fare in Teddington because I was desperate for gyoza and tofu and not everywhere had both!

Everything came within the delivery window provided in the app and was piping hot - I liked that the food came very well wrapped as well!

The grilled pork dumplings were really tasty, the "wrappers" were a litle thick but overall very good.  They are served with a vinegar dip which I really love but is probably not for everyone.  Other sauces are available so add them on to you order!

The spare ribs weren't the best I've ever had - they were a little on the dry side even though they were swimming in BBQ sauce…

Yet again I ordered too much food and was so full from the dumplings and soup that I didn't have the main course, "Hunan sea spiced bean curd", until the following day but it was delicious - loads of spongey bean curd, cabbage, baby corn, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and LOTS of garlic!

I definitely prefer the Just Eat app over Hungry House - it just felt easier to navigate and more user friendly.  I hope you have takeaways near you that use Just Eat - I'd love to hear how you got on with it (and what you ordered, of course!).

  1. Just what I need - an app that makes it even easier for me to order takeaway! As if I need to be eating it more often! lol
